I've always been more of a defensive player.

I just did my first real rounds of PvP with the dragon. I have to say I'm extremely impressed. They're really fun. Quick and amazingly potent. Having Havel's Shield is a really nice substitute for armor. I was doing around 850 damage per attack with my +15 unbuffed Partizan. I'm using Power Within with an unupgraded pyro flame, the dragon roar coupled with the LDC ring, and Leo Ring countering. Massive damage. I just fought a kid over 100 levels higher than me and nearly 1HKOd him.
