    Infinity Challenge Empty Infinity Challenge

Post by callipygias Thu May 17, 2012 1:46 pm

I've decided to take my sl 6 guy through infinity. Anyone here done this before? I've been surprised quite a few times already. In NG+ the toughest fights (by far) were the gargoyles and Capra, but in ++ I sailed through gargoyles and Capra killed me just once -- apparently at this level you can't survive his 2-hand attack even with a maxed Balder Shield. One-hit me through my shield.

So far the only boss to give me trouble in ++ is, of all things, SIF! I'd get him down to 1/4 or so, then get a tiny bit lazy, and all he has to do is nick me and I'm dead.

I'm trying to do everything, including the usually skipped Upper-Blighttown, and avoid running through areas I normally run through with my other characters. I'll still run Dukes Archives' initial room though.

No spells, of course. I've maxed out a pyro glove but it is for glitch-invaders in the Burg during co-op, against the engine I'm only melee.

What I'm dreading is that soon simple jumps will one-shot me. Like jumping through the circle after ringing Quelaag's bell. I'm sure I'll forget at some point that those jumps take more hp than my guy has and end up back at a distant bonfire.

Not sure if I'll be able to make it all the way to +8. Actually, just thinking of Gwyn, I'm doubting I'll be able to. Eventually he's going to do sooo much damage through my little Dragon Crest Shield.

Bro, get a BK shield against Gwyn and Quelaag, that will sort you well (though by NG+7 he really will still eat through your shield.

By then though you'll be fighting all bosses like flamelurker.. All you do is dodge and get an occasional hit in silly

he's lvl 6 i doubt he has 16 str to hold the bk shield.... and even if you parry gwyn you still often take damage which in ng++ probably could kill a lvl 6 with base vit... you might survive a gwyn attack in full black iron armor due to high fire defense and if your parrying you won't need to move much so fat roll is okay...

lols, sorry guys, I missed the fact he was an SL 6 Look Skyward

Still though maybe calli you should upgrade a shield upon the fire path? I think it will really help when you have to face the fire based bosses.

    Holy crap wait a second!
It's possible to acctually make shields more resistant? I thought only thing you could do was upgrade their damage and stability??

Crap, I hadn't thought of that. It resets stability, so vs. Gwyn do you think I'd be better off with Dragon Crest +5 at 66 stab? Since I have nothing else to do with souls and such I might as well test it.

And by they way, despite what I said earlier this morning I AM NEVER DOING UPPER BLIGHTTOWN AGAIN. F-ing dogs, man. Video games are going to turn me into a dog hater.

Yes, but it resets their stability. I made a lightning Balder Shield once to see how it did against the ever-present ltng. Zwei invader, but I don't think From did it right. The initial upgrade is pretty hefty, it'll raise ltng. resist from like 40 to 50 or something, but after that each upgrade is a small increase. With stability reset I ended up feeding it to Frampt.

Get the sunlight shield and upgrade that to fire, at +10 is has 90% fire resist.

however, is 5% more block worth having only 57 stability?

Edit: Unless you have 16 strength, the best fire resist you can get is the sun shield, I'd recommend considering that, 5% may become a bigger margin as gwyn and quelaag become more powerful.

Ha, I was retrieving the FKeeper's soul and Lautrec's Shotel 1-shot me through my shield. Was not expecting THAT much damage to get through, like 600 hp. That doesn't seem right, does it? I checked and I was using my +5 Crest Shield.

The Shotel completely negates a shield's defences.

nah calli, the R2 attack on the shotel goes round shields, but is slower to make up for it, and pretty easy to dodge.

I see. Of course I'm not worried about how to get around it, Lautrec is one of the easiest parries in the game. I figured I could take a quick hit from him then get enough room to switch to my hornet ring, which I'd forgotten, and I loooove the hornet riposte of a warpick.

So does his Shotel do 100% damage around your shield whether he R1s or R2s, or is his R1 partially blocked?

You can block light attacks completely, it's only heavy attacks that bypass shields.

4 Kings. Thought I owned them. 573 hp, 51 equip. Had them down to about 2 hits on my third try, but that was 45 minutes ago. Seeing how this is going my hopes for reaching infinity aren't quite as high as they were.

Once I was safely rested at the 3rd bfire of Duke's Archives I tested damage a little and let that archer up top hit me. I have 687 hp now that I put a Lautrec ring on, but he still 1-shot me. Almost everything in the game can 1-shot me now.

I really recommend this to those of you that want to feel a little of the old fear from your first playthrough. Knowing that something around the corner can and will kill you is pretty exciting.

    *EDIT*

Running past the bk's @ Gwyn. Enter fog. Halberd hits me through fog. I die.

I've done this challenge before, but I allowed myself to level up to level 120... I think you can do a lot more at that point... and overall I kind of feel when you've got at least -something- to work with, you have more fun. I've never been a fan of "impossible" difficulty settings on games, challenges like this included.

Ha, if it was anywhere near impossible I certainly wouldn't be able to do it. If you feel like trying it out a little and have a low enough character join me for a boss if you'd like.

Any other XBoxers are welcome too. I left my guy in the Burg on a new round, +++.

Summoning isn't in the spirit of the challenge, but I figure one round won't hurt anything. Besides, without the ability/equipment to make videos I'm just a guy on a forum claiming to be doing a challenge.

Oh, I don't mean it's impossible, I mean it's like using the Legendary difficulty setting on Halo, with all skulls on. Sure, you could do it, but I have no inclination to even bother. I'm not "hardcore" enough to find joy in stripping all power from my character so completely. A level 6 NG infinity run is essentially that.

    Looking for advice.

I kinda want to summon someone at the Burg for +++. At once it seems kind of funny and kind of trolly. The summons certainly won't be expecting what they find! Do you think they'd be pissed or amused? I mean, the Burg's still the easiest place in the game at infinity, but I'm afraid I may get a new guy trying to earn some humanity or something.

Maybe if I dropped them a few humanities? Or is it just a childish idea?
