Re: Armor. What's the point?
Armor is useful. I notice this a lot when i fight with my dragonoids. Spears, katanas, curved swords, rapiers etc. All fast weapons do a lot more damage. You don’t notice much of a change with the bigger weapons but smaller weapons become really dangerous. They are fast and can inflict a lot of damage when you don’t have defenses.

Re: Armor. What's the point?
well I'm a ninja flip guy, so i rarely get hit.. and when i do, 70% of the time is intentional for fishing a backstab.. thus I need Ninja and Hornet very much..

Oh, thats something I should ask. with 0 poise if you dodge a hit but still take the bleed or poison damage ect does it stagger you?

No. You only stagger if you take damage too.

Re: Armor. What's the point?
No it doesnt.
its funny that these really agressive guys with 0 poise try and attack you with there katanna's ect and the moment they go to attack they get an arrow which stops their attack and totally pisses them off.

Re: Armor. What's the point?
I loooove fighting people with no poise, and I also hate it. G. Halberd has a such a HUGE reach, I just wait for them to try to attack, and I just keep saying "nope *stagger*".. "nope *stagger" until they die from my flaming g. halberd. It's so much fun to deny them even a single hit... but it's also no challenge..
So, I'd recommend getting AT LEAST 30 something poise to be able to resist those really long distance weapons.
PS: My avatar is my set-up. Pyromancer hood and chest is way better than the wanderer's IMO.. except when you look straight at the face.. then the hood doesn't look right, but *shrug* I'm a pyromancer. Dark gloves and boots are pretty heavy, but they give me 18 poise and with the wolf ring, I don't get stunned unless i get hit by things that shouldn't be hitting me hahaha!

I like the pyro set also. Depends on tour weapon/shield combo also. I just think the light sets are generally cooler looking.

Re: Armor. What's the point?
Fo' sho'. Other than Tarkus's set, and, of course, Oscar's Set.... oh yeah. But the light armors are just awesome because you're pretty much saying "I'd rather look cool and roll fast than have armor and poise. Why? Because I'm better than you." Hahahaha!DamageCK wrote:I like the pyro set also. Depends on tour weapon/shield combo also. I just think the light sets are generally cooler looking.

Nobody looks good leaned forwards as if they are on the toilet while a greatsword repeatedly slams into them.

Re: Armor. What's the point?
Don't get stunlocked. The whole point is I'm tired of poise stacking builds. Yes it works, yes it's optimal, but I'VE DONE THAT. The majority of my old builds used pretty much identical gear setups from the same small group of sets. It's boring to use visually identical builds. It feels like the same thing all the time. So now I'm using light gear with Wolf's ring. Yeah, sometimes I get stunlocked. I don't care. Having a build that I like to look at is worth it. Hell, just doing something DIFFERENT is worth it.

Re: Armor. What's the point?
^^ Just saying that is when parries come in handy - But I agree - it is amusing when people are suddenly stunlocked by my Bastard Sword with its Citrus Power Sauce drizzled all over it. They suddenly get stunlocked and hit for 900 per tap of the weapon - also its hilarious when a Halberd person attempts to fight my Scythe, Washing Pole or Demon Spear xD

I have similar looking builds but they all are light armor wearers or 0 poise users.

That might be because we’re used to see the heavy armor flip around. If all heavy armor users didn’t use the flip ring they would be a lot cooler IMO.

Re: Armor. What's the point?
Oh, I'm so glad Demon Spears barely do any damage to me. But every time I see a Scythe or a Washing Pole, I try to transition from 50/50 pyromancy/melee to 70/30. Though, it's still a challenge >=/TehInfamousAmos wrote:^^ Just saying that is when parries come in handy - But I agree - it is amusing when people are suddenly stunlocked by my Bastard Sword with its Citrus Power Sauce drizzled all over it. @DamageCK I love using the wolf's ring. I think normal fast roll with 58 poise is WAY better than whatever poise and the flip. I just dislike using the flip ring, and most people are NOT used to the short burst of the normal fast roll. Rolling around a group of three and then backstabbing the host 3 times is just priceless

Re: Armor. What's the point?
I think you're right. Who here thought that the Havel's set looked freaking awesome until you saw that everyone else used it? And they were flipping with it...Spurgun wrote:DamageCK wrote:I like the pyro set also. Depends on tour weapon/shield combo also. I just think the light sets are generally cooler looking.

One of my favorite set combo's is Wanderers Chest, EK leggings, Knight Gauntlets/Eastern Gauntlets and sometimes I wear no headpiece - though if I do it is completely random xD

Eastern Gauntlets? Really? The most useless gauntlets in the game?TehInfamousAmos wrote:One of my favorite set combo's is Wanderers Chest, EK leggings, Knight Gauntlets/Eastern Gauntlets and sometimes I wear no headpiece - though if I do it is completely random xD

Re: Armor. What's the point?
2 poise and they weigh almost as little as travellers gauntlet - in combo with the Wolf ring they push me over the GS barrier - and hey they are actually cool-ish

Re: Armor. What's the point?
This is correct. It's because of the way defense works. The more defense you have, the more small weapons are penalized. Large weapons are not penalized as much (they have more damage deducted, but it's a smaller proportion of their total damage than for small weapons). So when you have no defense, suddenly small weapons aren't penalized at all anymore, so they are extremely dangerous. Large weapons weren't penalized that much by armor to begin with, so you don't notice as much of a difference.Spurgun wrote:Armor is useful. I notice this a lot when i fight with my dragonoids.
