whats the point of str weapons?

Recently tried some str weapons and there slow and heavy andi just don't KNOW how to win.

What do you do? Tank a hit and go nuts? Wait for an opening?

Any tips are welcome I used to be a descent PvP player with dex anyway.

I use them for fun and my toon usually looks badass carrying a big weapon. Some of them can't stunlock since the patch. The greataxes can't stunlock anymore so they're very tricky to use. The great hammers usually use the roll attacks. The little hammers can stunlock and break 52 poise, but they're slow and short. You just have to be patient and lure the enemy into your attacks since most of them will bs fish you.

Explain?

Which weapons are best? I'm using dgm that do it?

Patience is even more of a virtue with STR weapons. I'm normally a katana user, but I like to pull out a UGS every now and then to mix things up. The only difference between faster DEX weapons and slower STR weapons is to know when to counter your opponents' moves.

High damage.

Wide horizontal sweeps.
Cool ttacks that send people flying away or upwards.
Long range.

Seriously, Strength weapons > Dex weapons.

More like Skill > everything

Remember to try all weapons, until you find someone that suits you. No weapon is the best thing in DkS as every weapon and strategy has a hard counter. The only thing that doesn't have a hard counter is: gankers.

whats the point of any weapon..

variety, different playstyles, different tactics.

I like using the Greatsword. It has thrusting R2 and rolling attacks, providing great range and great counter damage potential. I can literally outrange most people by only rolling away and poking them with it. You can also bring in stunlocking for overly aggressive players.

Its all about getting familiar with your weapon. I've been using my Black Knight Greataxe+5 for so long, I swear I have like a sixth sense as for when to attack. If a weapon swings too slow, an enemy will probably actually land an attack on you before you make contact with it. Its to the point where I attack even when an enemy is gaurding and then by the time they actually lower their gaurd, my axe owns them.

U'mm... no That's not how poise works at all. Who told you that?

So what's a common build? Str end? Str fth and buffing? Pyros?

I would assume good end is necessary for equipping heavy *** weapons.

Almost all builds(assuming you're building for lvl.120) have 40 Vit, 40, end, and 40 of w/e you want your main attack stat to be. You can make adjustment if you want though, those are just the most common builds. At least if you're pure melee(Pyromancies work too since they don't need any stat investment, aside from attunment)

Oh sorry, I forgot about poise. I've been tanking with Havel's and dishing out damage with great weapons for too long.:silent:

As a STR weapon guy myself maybe i can help. Be patient, you ain't some fast uchi using ninja, YOU ARE A TANK you strike heavy but are slow so knowing when your enemy will attack tanking the hit and in a exchange he takes 200-300 more damage is pretty good. Mid roll i know alot of people think mid roll is a death sentence but its not and for STR builds you can't be cut off from a fast weapon when in a swing or else you are gonna die. (I honestly prefer mid roll over fast) and oh, use a backup weapon (Demon spear, Club, reinforced club, mace anything like that) and other than that you will need to try STR builds for atleast a month before you start dominating.(Don't give up) plus i personally don't see enough STR weapons all uchi users. (Here's the build i use http://mmdks.com/pqa i have the 3 slots if i want to use pyro but i prefer my bow)

(Edit) Note: The backup weapon is for when the enemy has little to no health

This my SL 100 Str/Int build. It's the same as Dex however you'll have to make greater sacrifices due to high weight.

Seriously. If not for spears I'd never stop using weapons that are 16.0 or heavier.
