WTF? Sentient Hollows?

So I was invading in the Parish, when, to my surprise, the Undead Soldier, the in-game enemy not the person I was invading, by the iron gate behind the boar takes it upon himself to pull the lever to close the gate on me.

I just went: huh?

Never would have occurred to me that regular enemies could manipulate the environment like that.

yeah, he does that every time you get there the first time, if you run you can go in there and its an awesome shortcut.

yep, the very first time i played the game i saw it and i was like wtf? and after going the long way i was like ohhhhh, the next time i made a new toon i just rushed and went in through there to save time.

Yeah, it's actually a kinda sweet escape hatch if you get invaded in that area. You can sprint under the drawbridge and the DW is stuck on the other side because there's also a fog wall that prevents him from taking the long way around.

Same goes for the hollows that hang from ledges in the Painted World. If you get near them, they will hoist themselves up.

Hollow's clearly have some degree of intelligence, I mean they use shields and heal themselves shutting you out is not that big a step up in self preservation. although it is interesting to wonder how much knowledge they retain...

Common sense, I would say. Badly injured = Heal. Unfamiliar knight approaching cathedral = Attempt to keep stranger out.

hes killed me by timing the gate to land on me. it does a crap ton of damage. of course hes killed the mecha boar this way too.. i've even had a chance to use it in pvp to damage someone...

I would've thought it would've just knocked you back a bit.

No, it does damage.
And a lot of it too. Approximately 2000 AR on that thing.
