I've also noticed a lot of (i think its called "screen tearing) like cracks in the walls, particularly in the cage elevator room at the top of Sen's Fort, that i never noticed on Xbox. Is it possible I got a bad disc, or worse a bad console???

Major console difference
Since getting this game on PS3 I've encountered something at least three times that I don't recall ever happening on Xbox. The game freezes! First time happened during my first fight with asylum demon! Last time it happened the autosave indicator was on my screen but miraculously my save file was ok. My question is, is there any kind of fix for this? Thrre doesn't appear to be an option to install the game to hard drive, which was my first thought, so it's not like i can delete and reinstall since it was never installed in the first place!

Re: Major console difference
Both the disk and the console could be bad... but it's certainly a hardware problem, rather then a normal occurance for PS3.

Re: Major console difference
That's not good. Guess I'll try restoring my ps3 back to factory default (pretty sure I remember seeing an option for that) and reinstalling all the updates. Maybe that'll help. Only game I've had any trouble with freezing is DkS though.

Re: Major console difference
My DkS on Ps3 has never frozen. Only games that ever freeze on here are poorly done ports of 360 titles.
As far as screen tearing, none of that either.
The only graphical 'glitch' I ever see is, occasionally when I'm near a door looking away from it and turn around real fast I can see foggyness on the other side of the door for a split second before textures load.
You my friend have an issue of the technical variety.

Fed what you're experiencing is actually not a glitch, it is something intentionally done in a lot of games. The game isn't rendering what you can't seen to not waste it's power. Console games need to do it a lot to make up for how old the hardware is.

I know it's not a glitch in the true sense of the word. It's intentional but it's supposed to be hidden from the player's view, so it's a something, I just couldn't come up with a better word.

Well generally it is rendering distance I believe, I'm not sure about the term for around corners though but it might be the same.

Yeah I guess it should be called 'texture pop in'

Re: Major console difference
The game has noticeably began to freeze more often on xbox as well. My friend agrees, and he just got a new copy.
It only happens when online, I think there is something wrong at Namco.

I once ran so fast from Firelink to Valley of Drakes that the area wasn't rendered by then and had to wait a good 8 seconds before crossing the plank bridge.
What you mentioned isn't as bad as what I have. I think my PS3 overheated at some point and most of my games looks like anti-aliasing is off. Not a big issue but if you look at edges close enough it's noticable.

What's Namco got to do with it? There aren't any servers or anything.

I blame Blizzard, it's always their fault somehow.

Re: Major console difference
Here's what really discourages me: When I went in gamestop to buy my ps3, they offered me a refurbished, backwards compatible model. As interested as I was, it was only $30 cheaper than a brand new slim, so I went ahead and got the new one hoping to avoid having any hardware issues right out of the box. Looks like, as with most electronic gadgetry that i buy, the issues may have found me anyways :x

Re: Major console difference
That makes me wonder if it was new, I haven't run into that issue while playing. But I actually have one in general with my PS3, my visual plug slides out while the system is on for some reason. So I have to sit near to my PS3 while I play, and push it in every now and then. During PvP, it sucks.

The refurbished backwards compatible model being $30 cheaper then a slim is a bargain since they were twice the price of a slim when new. So being sold at under 50% new cost as a refurbished model is a good deal.

^^^True, and it was very tempting to get, but i seem to be cursed when it comes to buying any type of electronics...if there's a defect anywhere in the whole damn store, I will buy it! Taking that into consideration, i wasn't comfortable buying a 4-5 year old system, refurbished or not. Perhaps I would have been better off, but ya know...hindsight!

Re: Major console difference
I have to admit, I've experienced freezing twice and these breaks in terrain were happening a bunch about a month ago. I deleted the patch then reinstalled it and all is well now.
On the used/refurbished system and gamestop in general...
Take it from an ex store manager. You might want to think twice about dealing with them. I left the company because being a gamer and general fan of all things game related I was frustrated with what I was seeing and unable to prevent all to maximize profit. Brand new systems clearly damaged by flooding being sold repackaged, disks gamaged during shipping being sold, trades being overlooked during the trade process only to be "moved from shrink" to gain maximum profit, items returned defective being resold to the unsuspecting consumer, the list goes on...
Oh and ever have a reserve mysteriously vanish? No record or maybe you were told, "you sure you didn't reserve at another location?" someone is pocketing your reserve money. Do yourselves a favor go with companies like best buy or amazon. Gamestop is...faulty to a fault. =/

Re: Major console difference
Cool, I will first try just deleting & reinstalling the patch. I am stuck at work for the next 5 & 1/2 hours but as soon as I get home I'll try that. Fingers crossed!
I've never had any problems with gamestop in the past, though I've heard my share of horror stories! If the ps3 I bought wasn't brand new, it was MASTERFULLY repackaged!
