Re: I miss this era of Dark Souls
The first month of pvp was really fun, i was not nearly as confident as i am now though. I can wait for the next game. Hopefully the DLCs enough that it feels like a a whole new experience.

You know, I do agree that removing the Dark Wood Grain ring would change builds massively without impacting build design too much.

give the ring a durability rating of 10, it'd break mid combat fairly often, it could be repaired but...

DWGR would be fine if it wasn't for invincibility frames.
I hope the DLC will add some cool new armor and come with a free patch that nerfs the questionable items. I'm sure they will learn from their (few) mistakes for Souls 3

oh come on guys, my sarcasm is a piece of crap but thats exacly what I meant.
People never take off DWGR, imagine if they couldnt. There would be no different builds whatsoever. I would pretty much quit Dark Souls.

I think most people would be happy if it was just changed from invincibility frames and if they dropped the weight to 25 percent. Then all of the heavy armor wearers wouldn't be flipping.

Re: I miss this era of Dark Souls
The first few months were so good. Everything was new, and experimentation ran wild. The pre-patch ring of fog was far less damaging to the game than the DWGR in my opinion.
The idea of having the DWGR cut poise in half is still the best idea I have read.

You mean the fog ring that was actually useful as an invader? I'd have prefered it was left alone.

And today, experienced duelers can fight without lock on, so I don't think that could be a huge problem, only Fog ring + TWoP or Fog + Hidden body

Wow really? The ROF went from the most used to most useless ring in one patch. It was way worse then DWGR. I remember fighting a host and 2 summons all 3 with ROF many times. I always lost. I fight the 3 people with DWGR giants and im fast rolling with 0 poise and win at LEAST half of the time. I am better at the game now but still...ROF was way worse.
Cut the poise in half? Thats the best solution? 25% is best IMO. Why? Because anything less than 53 poise is pretty much useless.
At the same time though without poise you may as well fast roll and use that ring slot for sometihng else. There are plenty of better rings to use if you are already fast rolling. So then whats the point in having a DWGR at all? You get to flip! Thats good enough for me! I like to do flips it amuses me.
However....When the smallest weakest weapon stunlocks me that is a problem. Fast rolling without poise is hard...You get hit once and the person is smart enough to stand there and keep swinging you are screwed.
In my honest opinon...the poise system is the problem. Dont get me wrong. There should be a poise system of some kind.
Every light armor in the game has 0 poise. If you med roll with a bit of poise its not going to be enough to matter. Also with med roll you will easily get BS if youre fighting more than one person...or one person if they are good....at backstabs
Maybe if your stats had more to do with poise? What if your end was directly related to how well you can take a hit?(just an example) What if armor was purely for defensive stats and your characters stats were the deciding factor in poise? Or! Perhaps a mixture of both?
My point is....i think the poise system should be reworked. It is WHY DWGR is "op"....what was this thread about?

Re: I miss this era of Dark Souls
^ think about you said, if the DWGR was only 25%, you would NEVER use, because of the Min/Max
Thats how you would say if things were different:
"I like to flip around but I must fast roll to get another ring slot"
Thats exacly what happens with the DWGR today!
"I like medium roll but I'm FORCED to use DWGR because everyone else use it"
Plus, you have wolfs ring, which is a substitute of DWGR if you're using fast roll
Heavy armor + DWGR = poise and speed
Light armor + Wolfs ring = poise and speed
You don't have idea how much I miss Demon's...

How did Demons work? Did stunlock just not exist?

Re: I miss this era of Dark Souls
no, stunlock existed but many weapons caused knockback that would fling enemies backward despite heavy armor. one infamous version was the dual katana "push-lock" where youd "push" (kick) then off hand slash ... repeat till dead....

Yeah I remember getting so angry when someone invaded with dual kats!
And I loved to knockback people with the stormruler, even doing trash damage

Nearly every weapon stunlocked everyone, regardless of armor, for varying numbers of hits, but dodging was easier and the toggle escape worked.

"I like to flip around but I must fast roll to get another ring slot" Did i say this? I know i said something somwhat like this but i believe i was going somewhere else with it which was clearly stated...maybe not. I know i never said that i must do anything.
"I like medium roll but I'm FORCED to use DWGR because everyone else use it" Ok i know i didnt say this. I like how you put qoutes on it though.
"I like to put qoutes on things that people kinda said take it out of context and be condescending" - Carphil
Hey look I can do that too! Wait...that may have been too direct i guess i cant...ill practice.
Wolfs adds 40 poise as i recall...40 poise = stunlock in pvp. But hey like i said i do ok with 0.

Re: I miss this era of Dark Souls
Guys please keep this from getting personal.
Personally my view on the DWGR, it should be a cosmetic item. It sort of seems like that was the intent, a ring that changes your roll animation. The issue is it working with the medium flip. If not for that, I'm sure we would see people medium rolling, fat rolling, and fast rolling. Why? For instance, I would be medium rolling. I already did it a lot while dueling, I'd again be able to do it while invading in the forest. Since people would either be slower than me, or faster with less durability. Would I miss the poise? Not really, I tend to use the wolf's ring anyway, as well I can avoid getting hit without the DWGR. It would sort of force players to actually get better at the game if you ask me, rather than need the crutch that is the DWGR. Think about it, if that ring was removed from the game if players fought a guy who doesn't use it, most would get destroyed merely because they don't know how not to use it.

Re: I miss this era of Dark Souls
The same could be said about anything. I heavily favor heavy weapons and magic for the damage per hit. If you give me a bss, I'm going to die terribly because I don't know how to fight well if I don't trade up. That doesn't mean I'm bad, it means I don't know how to roll poke well.

That sounds more like you have no variety in your arsenal, if only one is useful in every situation while others aren't, then that's another design flaw if you ask me.

Re: I miss this era of Dark Souls
Its the same concept as the dwgr reliance.
A real life example, I do jujitsu. I grapple. If I got in a boxing match and wasn't allowed to grapple, I'd get my face beat in because Grappleing is the core of my fighting style.
The dwgr flip is also centeral to many playstyles atm. I am simply saying that your argument can't be properly applied to the dwgr as a negative because it also applies to many other things. Its called being specialised.
Now I am working on mitagating my weakness because it interferes with my success, but that may well not be the case for others.

Re: I miss this era of Dark Souls
Expect this is a game, where you can have many different toons that can each specialize in different things. You like large weapons for example.
What if instead of the DWGR, we had a rapier issue. The Ricard's can stunlock and deals the same damage as a great axe. Would you rather every single player uses the Ricard's, they're just specializing after all. No harm in that. Or would you rather not everyone in the game just run around with Rapier's? I'd rather see a patch where the damage gets reduced frankly, as it makes the game just a bit sillier.
It almost reminds me of Aim Assist in many games. There are players who go without it, and it is more difficult for them to play. But if others are without aim assist, they are king.
