The most difficult game you've ever beaten.

Let's face it, Dark Souls is tough, but it's not the worst, not by far. Most of us have been around for games that weren't just challenging or unforgiving...they were downright brutal. Dark Souls kicked my *** over and over and laughed at me as I hopped around doing a silly little dance from the pain. But this game I just finished cut my *** into bite-sized chunks, ground those chunks up into a paste, and proceeded to force-feed my *** to me through a funnel. And you know what? I couldn't stop playing because of how goddang fun it was! I felt twice as accomplished with finally toppling this game as I did with both Demon's and Dark Souls combined. For those who are wondering, I'm talking about:

And so this isn't just me ranting, I'll ask the question that is the title of this thread. What is the truly most difficult game you've ever stuck with and beaten to the end?

PS: Try to keep it to real games, no mods or hacks or anything

I think I got to around 25 of 30.

Most difficult that I've actually beaten? Tough question. If its the difficulty of surviving, not counting the penalty for death, I'd say bayonetta on max difficulty. Have only beaten like 4 of the 16 (i think) levels without a death.

Including the penalty for death is an even tougher question, but for me its Golden Axe, because I suck hardcore at most sidescrolling games.

An honorable mention to Oni, Star Wars pod racing and any/all wipeout games, all of which were incredibly frustrating.

Actually I have to mention Sacred 1 on Niobium difficulty as a battle mage. On any other character it would be impossible, but the battlemages range allows you to just do it. 5000 hp at level 120? Final boss one shot me. I only won because you respawn inside the arena you fight him in, with him at the same hp.

The Worlds hardest game is pretty bad, but Armoured Core For Answer on hardest difficulty on a runthrough with a light melee mech is hell.

Guys i think we are forgetting the original version of Devil May cry(or one of versions i can never remember which one) ...... which they patched/ rereleased as an easier game.... that was sheer hell to play through

Hard to say. I'd say that the hardest game I've ever beaten was when I finally beat - name withheld for privacy reasons - at chess. He is a high ranked chess player in the state of Florida and has performed well in some national tournaments.

After countless humiliating defeats, I beat him. Oh, the joy!

Also tried my hand at Spenlunky recently, I wouldn't call it super difficult but it is quite unforgiving and very frustrating in that you can die and lose everything if you just make one tiny, silly, inconsequential mistake... :x

When had a PS3 beating that game one the hardest difficulting while getting S on every mission was hard as hell but one of my crowning achievements.

Ive been playing games since SNES and for me , nothing can compare in terms of difficulty

AGREED! Ive done the same, it was tough.

I would have to say though, that the very first CONTRA game for NES may have been the most diffiuclt to beat for me. I was much younger then too, so may not be as difficult now.

Also CASTLEVANIA 2 gave me hell for a long time. Stupid Dracula was about impossible

Army men land sea air was a bastard.. To be honest I can't remember too many games that I played that were that horrible, compared to the fact i was probably just not very good

Uncharted 3 on the hardest difficulty. The end of that game is ridiculous, it isn't fair. You ust get handed deaths.

Or are we going for fair, but challenging games?

I thought Metroid Prime was pretty tough but Metroid Prime2- Echoes was nigh on impossible for me at least. Couldn't get past a double boss fight about 40% in. It still grieves me.

Way back in my slightly youthier I had gotten a PS2. The very first game I bought was Mobile Suit Gundam Zeonic Front, rolls of the tongue.

I was young and didn't realize that this game relied not only battle skill alone, but ability to plan conflicts and command multiple teams in a very realistic warzone. I still love it but it took me a solid 4 years to finish.

Alright guys, time to put in some stipulations! Achievements and Hard Modes are one thing, now how about games where those aren't taken into account? Taking only the difficulty taken from a standard run of the game, now what is the toughest you've beaten?

For me, still Super Meat Boy

Isn't that game suppose to be so terrible?

Also I found Crysis (warhead I believe?) somewhat difficult. I don't know why, but it was.

Well if we're going for that then I still say Zeonic Front, BUT one that trumps it for me is NINJA GAIDEN on the NES. You need to be omnipotent to actually beat that game, props to anyone who has.

VANQUISH Tactical Challenge 6 , there is no difficulty option it had an insane learning curve

I would say Demon's Souls but I've actually not beaten it yet. Even after 600 hours in Dark Souls, I found Demon's Souls to be terrifying. I was doing a blind run and I never really had that experience with Dark Souls, so I find Demon's to be way harder. I had a ton of trouble with that armored spider as well as the two gargoyle guys in 3-2, and I had to go offline mode in order to beat the monk in 3-3 :|

Probably Oni, might still be golden axe. I think my most difficult games speak more of my strengths as a gamer than the actually difficulty of the game. I'm good at racers, shooters, and rpgs. I'm not good at fighters or rts, and I'm awful at anything that sidecrolls. Oni though, I feel is a legitimately difficult game in a genre I'm decent in.

not easy to anwser. dragon warrior was really tough. Zelda was a pain. i dunno ill have to think about it dark souls is the hardest game i have played in decades so....
