What's the point of lighting bonfires but not resting?

Post title says it all.

Is there any reason to light a bonfire and not rest there? AFAIK the answer is no. Lighting it does absolutely nothing.

you might want to light the bonfire at say the Chamber of Chaos but not rest there so you can homeward bone back to your previous bonfire while still having it lit so you can warp there after you get the lord vessel.

TO increase the time you can be invaded for. I've lit a bonfire but then had it go out straight after (no you cant light them while being invaded) for an invasion. Luckily I won or it was a long way back.

Forgive me if im wrong, but I could have sworn that you cant warp to a bonfire unless you have RESTED there before. Just lighting it never seems to come up on my warp list (pretty sure I have had to make the run back down to Chaos because of this)

^^ Correct.... But the Daughter of Chaos Bonfire is already lit... You just have to seat there in order to warp later.

Seems like a bunch of code to put in for no good reason.

But, once you sit at the Chaos bonfire, you can't HB back to the shrine.
