    What is A Realm Reborn?

In short A Realm Reborn is a reboot of the oddly wacky, unfinished and broken MMO Final Fantasy XIV. This is essentially a new game, so all perceptions and knowledge of XIV should be thrown out of the window.

Obviously due to the NDA Square-Enix has put on the early stages of the beta limits what I can reveal.

A Realm Reborn has a entirely new engine, overhauled the combat, crafting and questing mechanics as well as redesigning the world map. One thing is certain unlike XIV, A Realm Reborn is packed full of solo and group content.

The game still retains however from XIV the innovative armoury system.

    Please lock. Thanks. Gaming-final-fantasy-xiv-real-reborn-environment-screenshot-4
    What is the Armoury system?

The armoury system was the one bright spark amongst all the failed potential of XIV. It in essence means that you can change your class by re-equipping the weapon you are currently using. e.g changing your sword and shield (Gladiator class) to a spear (Lancer class)

So you are not limited to any one class at all.

It is however advisable to invest your exp you gain from leveling to stats that benefit your favourite role(s) however. (Min/Max 4lyf etc)

What Classes are in A Realm Reborn?

The combat classes in A Realm Reborn can be found here:
    http://eu.finalfantasyxiv.com/game/armoury

Jobs on the other hand are advanced combat classes that require a certain level to be reach with two classes. Info found here:
    http://eu.finalfantasyxiv.com/game/jobs

What Races are in A Realm Reborn?

Races range from the hulking Roegadyn to the tiny Lalafell. You can see the various races and sub-races here:

Where do all these people live?

The land of Eorzea where these races reside , is a varied world of extremes of the deserts and canyons of Ul'Dah region, to the dense forests, caves and rivers of Gridania ; and last but not least the cliffs, rolling hills, harbours, peaceful countryside and beaches of Limsa Liminsa. Discover more and choose your homeland here:

    Crafting?
Crafting and Gathering classes are also an important part of A Realm Reborn. Other players can repair and improve your armour to a better standard than NPC's. Food and potion crafting are also very important for dungeons and party combat. Finally all Crafting classes assist in building the players housing.

I have the PS3 version can I still play with my friend who has the PC version?

In short : yes. A Realm Reborn has cross-platform servers allowing players from both versions of the game to play together on the same servers. So the community is all together in the same place.

On a side note this also means if you own both the PC and PS3 versions you can access your account from both, allowing you to play on both platforms with the same character.

Yeah I signed up a few days ago for the PS3 one finally, after my computer stopped saying I couldn't connect to the site. Probably a slim chance I'll get in but oh well, trying is better then nothing.

If you have XIII you could of used the Square Enix code in there to guarantee entry.
But you have a decent chance, it's not based on first come first serve and there's always the open beta.

On the sign up page it states:

If you have a FINAL FANTASY XIII (PS3) Members code, please enter it here for a chance to receive priority access to the PS3 Beta.

I am not sure if this includes the sequel. Although if it is a Square Enix code it might work. I really am not sure, I'll go ask around the forum for you.

It would suck if it didn't because I bought XIII second hand, but I do have a valid code from buying XIII-2 new.

From what I can gather there is no mention of the code from XIII-2 being compatible with the beta application. Square themselves have never mentioned it.

But even without the code I would still apply. There's still a good chance of getting into phase 3 and remember that phase 4 is an open beta anyway.

Also does your second hand copy of XIII have a code? If it does it's probably still compatible as people rarely ever bother with memberships and things.

My copy of XIII has a code but it's an XXXXXX-XXX-XXXXXX-XXX code, the site only allows me to input a XXXX-XXXX-XXXX code sad

Edit: I understand the confusion, I mistakenly said XIII-2 instead of XIII.

Just apply the code for the SQUARE ENIX ACCOUNT from XIII when you register for the beta.
You can't create a new Final Fantasy XIV account until release.
The Square Enix account and Final Fantasy XIV account are completely separate entities.

I tried many times to no avail, like I said(mistakenly added the 2 part), the XIII code I have(which successfully registered on the Square site) has a 6-3-6-3 format as opposed to 4-4-4-4-4, and the registration page offers me no way to change it to the appropriate format.

You doubly sure it's the correct version of XIII? The code from the North American version of XIII does not work when applying of the European beta and vice-versa.

I'm not sure what else it could be? I've never heard of this problem before. I'll go around to the official forums when I have time and ask about it for you.

I would just sign up anyway, with or without the code. There's still a good chance of getting into phase 3 and phase 4 (open beta) is not long after phase 3 anyway.

I have found the source of your problem:

''The only code that works for getting into phase 3 of the PS3 beta for FF XIV is the one inside an original launch copy of FF XIII.''

So yeah I guess your copy isn't an original copy. I think Square have changed this from all codes is probably due to the number of people signing up for the PS3 closed beta.

    Welp best change the OP.

I hate that there is no gameplay being released. It really kills my ability to get psyched for something if I can't see beta footage. I don't want to buy a game that I don't know things about.
