Anonymous Proxy wrote:I hate that there is no gameplay being released. It really kills my ability to get psyched for something if I can't see beta footage. I don't want to buy a game that I don't know things about.

Beta phase 3 will see the removal of the NDA so more in depth gameplay footage should be appearing in the next month or so.

There are alpha footage videos on youtube but a lot has changed in the
combat, crafting and questing systems since then.

Don't forget that phase 4 is the open beta. So you'll be free to try out all the gameplay then even though not all the content will be present and the game will probably change further at release.

What I can say is if you dislike MMO combat systems full stop then I doubt this is the game for you. It is certainly a more traditional MMO setup. Up until level 15 it is mostly solo focused content but after this it switches to mostly group content like Final Fantasy XI.

As an MMO vet I can say is although it is nowhere near as hardcore or challenging as XI it is still pretty hard especially when compared to the more popular MMO's out on the market today.

Hope this answers that to a certain extent.

A 2 hour beta gameplay video with the developers. I'd recommend turning on transcripts/subtitles if you can't speak Japanese.

There is another livestream of gameplay by the developers that's been going on for 5 hours and counting. I'll link it here once it's been put up on youtube.

    Wait this **** is subscription?

I thought you'd just buy the game and that was it.. If it's subbed why does the original game cost anything? sad

Never played an MMO before? I'd rather not get into a subscription vs f2p model argument right now.

But yes there is a subscription fee just like Final Fantasy XI.

But I also hasten to add there is a month free period like in all subscription MMO's for you to try the content and judge whether it is worth the fee or not.

Thing is though the month free period obviously isnt free- since you have to buy te game first (actually in that month, technically it's the most expensive month due to game price). And it wouldn't be f2p as you buy tthe game initially?

I've only ever played **** browser MMOs. I've never played a proper expensive one. Fact is I don't have time to do so (nor would I want to make time to do so), so playing one with a subscription has never been an option to me

In fairness I'd probably buy the game if they hiked the initial purchase up by an extra £10-20 without subs. I just don't have the time to make a subs game a viable option sad

Sad, I thought FFIV looked kinda cool

Well it is how they make profit on the game. Sales profit for the game eventually gets eaten up by server maintenance, constant patches/fixes and content updates.

Ftp MMO's also generally are a lie within themselves since the majority of the content past early game is locked behind a paywall, forcing you to go premium (aka monthly subscription)to actually play the game effectively.

But yes I understand about timing etc. Personally all XIV will do is take up the time I usually play games for anyway. Since nothing interesting me in the near future is coming out.

Also if time is an issue I'd point out that modern subscription models are flexable, you can subscribe for a month. Then if you're too busy the month after unsubscribe then resubscribe when you have time later in the year. It's not a binding contract once you subsribe to the game.

Onion I don't mean time as in, busy in certain months, available other months- I don't game that much at uni.

I mostly watch TV, since im tired after lectures and maybe I'll play on sunday afternoon for a few hours. This coming year I doubt I'll be able to do as much too since my workload increases...

Honestly it's just I don't game enough to merit it. I just need stuff I can slowly work on that doesn't burn pointless holes in my pockets due to low activity from me

Fair enough. I understand about strict scheduling. Hell me and most of the linkshell I'm in have jobs, higher education and kids/families/friends etc.

But yeah this is just an info thread for people who are interested but are not sure what it's all about.

A lot of the people interested are new to MMO's so providing information like subscription fee's etc helps avoid disappointment people would have if they made an uninformed purchase.

Black Mage looked kinda dissapointing, but that may just be Dragon's Dogma talking...
Anyhow, will this be on PS3, as was originally planned?

    EDIT:
Answered that question by reading OP.

    Which brings another question. Price.
I would love some good MMORPG on PS3, but if I have to pay monthly fee, I refuse to pay the usual full price for the game itself. That would be just ridiculously expensive.

    Hello Onion Knight. ^^
40$ is about 60% of the usual new game's price in here.
    That doesn't sound half bad.
    What about the subscription prize?

The sub fee is linked in the OP also. Just follow the link for your region for the prices.

EDIT: Click on the prices/pricing tab at the top of the linked page for sub fee prices.

For NA : $12.99 ( a month) for a 3 month sub (which is best value for money) with a total of 40 characters (8 per server )

Even more updates: (Why do they release so much info at once all the time?!) Beta Phase 3 has been confirmed for the 14th of June.
So if you have applied for testing either the PC or PS3 versions check your emails for invites the week or so before.

    Hmmm...
    It's expensive, but still reasonable.

In all honesty, if they want to charge this much, the game better be the best MMORPG on the market. While the price may be standard on PC, it's quite outrageous for a console game.

I would still prefer the game to be free to play. Meaning that I can just try it and if I like it, subscribe. This way, I can end up paying money for a game I may not like, can play only for 30 days and can't even sell it, or gift it.
This 'risk' is something I really don't like about the game, from customer perspective. On the other side, those interested in it, myself included, will probably go play the open beta and will use that to determine if the game is worth all that dough.

It's actually cheaper than a lot of sub based MMO's on PC. ^^

But yeah a lot of people use open beta as a feeler outlet for MMO's. But take open beta with a pinch of salt, not all the content will be there and the purpose of the open beta is to severely stress test the servers especially when it comes to dungeon and FATE instances and trying to minimise or avoid queuing times when it comes to the launch.

I've done quite a few betas, don't worry. happy
Even if the content changes the basic stuff doesn't + it's still better to get a feel of the game this way than to just make a blind purchase.
I also know about the price, but we, console users, aren't use to that, so S-E should consider that. It could be quite a shock to some.

    Sounds about right.

I don't get it though... people run servers for other games online like halo and demons souls etc and they don't have to pay fees...

I just dunno why they need all that extra money

But Demon's Souls doesn't have thousands of players on each server. Final Fantasy XI for instance has 500,000 odd players on it's 15 servers (and that's 11 years after launch). Consider that for a second. The costs are huge to maintain servers with that number of players. MMO development when it comes to online architecture is a whole different ball game.

But please, I don't want to arguement about pricing models, they never end well. If you want to do that then start another thread. Thanks.

I also wasn't specifically mentioning you. Other people on here have gotten rather aggressive about pricing models in another thread to the point I had to block them. It's just a subject that never brings balanced discussion on the internet.

I have to say if I got it I'd go for a human class. Fun as the weird classes sound I've never been a fan of playing as non human characters on FF, they don't do them that well for me..

I mean look at fran in FFXII, she was awful
