Re: Wholesome Advice
No, religion has not killed more people than governments. Religion is sometimes used as a scapegoat or to fire up the uneducated masses, or as Stalin likes to call them, "useful idiots."
That is not calling a person of faith an idiot, but a person coerced into killing in the name of his faith is an idiot.
Here are a few counts from the 20th century alone:
China (PRC) (1949 – 1987) — 76,702,000 people killed.
USSR (1917 – 1987 ) — 61,911,000 people killed.
Western Colonialism (combined) — 50,000,000 people killed.
Hitler’s Germany (1933 – 1945) — 20,946,000 people killed, including their own population.
Japan (1936 – 1945) — 5,964,000 people killed.
Pol Pot’s Cambodia (1975 – 1979) — 2,035,000 people killed.
The total estimate for the 20th century is 262,000,000. That's two hundred and sixty two million. That's not a number anybody can understand, but all these people who were killed were not anybody unlike you, your mom, dad, sister, brother, best friend, coworker, etc.

Re: Wholesome Advice
Ouch. Well, I don't plan to kill anybody in the name of God.
That IS really stupid, though. And no government is going to get em to commit mass genocide.

Re: Wholesome Advice
I can agree with parts of both of your points. There are certain governments that are much worse than others, such as North Korea's communism, and the same with China, where they heavily impede ordinary life. But, I doubt that, unless it is some sort of semi-terrorist government, I don't think there is much chance of mass suicide/genocide happening.
And, while some parts of the world are real die hard Christian's that will live and die and kill for their faith, I doubt that, in the western world, anything which involves murder with religion is going to happen too much. It would have a much higher chance to happen somewhere such as in the Middle-East. So, there are good arguments in both of your posts, but if you take both into consideration, it comes out in a much more logical sense, no offense to any of you.

Liars, this thread is full of liars.
Renegade, we need to unite on a beach with both of us running slowly towards each other with arms outstretched.
Because we can.
