Re: For the first time ever....
Congrats
I still don't have the courage since I can not take that hit if I miss most of the time. (700-900-1100 are my three chars Health bars, thats a OHK on the first.)

Re: For the first time ever....
I finally parried someone in pvp yesterday (with a target shield no less) and I was so excited I screwed up the actual return attack. Talk about your highs and lows

Re: For the first time ever....
The first time I parried was against a BKGA. The funny thing is that I barely missed three times in a row before landing it (by barely missed, I mean that I got reduced damage and a partial block). Unbelievably, the guy kepts spamming R1. It was like he was trying to give me practice .

Re: For the first time ever....
What's this parry thing? I thought it was when you block an attack with a shield but it must be more complicated than that. Sorry to be a wuss but could someone explain it please.

Re: For the first time ever....
If you press L2 at the right time, you'll parry their weapon back, and make them prone to a massively powerful riposte. Think of a backstab from the front. Except much harder to do, easier to miss, but even more powerful.

Re: For the first time ever....
I found the key to me parrying more often, is to parry as soon as the weapon connects with your character, everyone I see parry tries it as soon as the weapon moves, it's better to parry to late, than to soon.Yarxov wrote:Congrats

It's best not to practice against NPC's if you're trying to get better at parrying in PvP.

Re: For the first time ever....
You're probably parrying their second hit then. Only with lag, you haven't actually even seen their second swing yet, but that's the one you're parrying. You need to parry a good half-second sooner than you would offline (that's a lot more than it sounds like), which is why you haven't seen his swing yet. Also why I often miss my riposte... I'll roll away to avoid the hit, unsure I'd parried it, then I'll miss my riposte window!Henkyona wrote:I found the key to me parrying more often, is to parry as soon as the weapon connects with your character, everyone I see parry tries it as soon as the weapon moves, it's better to parry to late, than to soon.Yarxov wrote:Congrats

I could be wrong, but I don't think that's what they meant. You can actually late-parry a hit enough that you even take damage from it. Not sure if it's a glitch or on purpose, but I do it every so often (accidentally) -- especially to those tough guys in the forest.

Re: For the first time ever....
No, that's possible. There could even be 2 parry windows for all I know (lag's so inconsistent, it's hard to be sure of these things), one from their end attacking, one on your end receiving. I know I've parried all sorts of hits, some before they ever swing, some after the swing's hit me. Some could've been second hits, but they could also have been late parries of the first hit... And I've gotten a lot of partial blocks too. Hard to tell!
Often they'll be spamming R1 and I'll parry, but I have no idea which hit I actually parried.

I've never parried an opponents attack. I've only parried a Phantom that I summoned. (Yes, you can actually parry your own Phantom's attacks.)

Hold on, you can parry your own phantom? That's bizarre. Can you ripose them afterward?

No, you can't Riposte them. But you can parry them to where they make the animation.

Congrats! Tough to get the timing down with lag! I've managed about 7 successful parry/ripostes in pvp and paid utterly for the times I missed lol

It's fun to parry the phantom. It is great when you are waiting for the next one to spawn, or another summon sign to appear.

Re: For the first time ever....
Oh **** I just remembered: I parried someone through a wall once!
(Not exactly on topic, but consider that the first time ever I did that!)
It was in Anor Londo, I was the invader, and the host had settled in the bonfire room with 2 phantoms ready to ambush me when I opened the door. I'm not an idiot, I didn't open it... But there wasn't much I could do with my Bandit's Knife/ Parrying Dagger setup either. Then one of the phantoms started spamming his Great Scythe through the wall. So I stood there and I parried it! I couldn't riposte through the wall, though--I tried. He ended up killing me through the wall in 2 hits (he was much higher level than me), but then he came through the door and did the "prostration" gesture. Guess he didn't expect to get parried through a wall! lol

Re: For the first time ever....
I actually suppose Parrying a Phantom could be considered Trolling, as you could leave your Phantom open for attacks if you were to go up and Parry them. xD
