Re: ENB's Dark Souls 2 Commentary
I didn't hear that about bosses showing up in the middle of the level and surprising the player. That sounds really cool if that is an actual feature we get.

Re: ENB's Dark Souls 2 Commentary
he points out that the weapon equipped could be directly linked to rolling speed, as opposed to an overall equip load. Personally I think that would be a step backwards, the equip load system allowed for greater customization, ie a strength character could tank with a huge weapon and go for insane armor load, or they could wear minimum armor and quick roll with a large weapon. I prefer the current system, but we don't know enough yet I guess. He also makes a comment on the idea of a main character, and claims that it may be a place holder because of something to do with the motion capture process. I feel better about the concerns regarding the possibility of playing only a a predetermined main character, From just released some photos of characters in different armour. Personally I think that we may actually play as the 'Main' character at the start of the game as a sort of large tutorial to show newcomers game mechanics and set up the plot. I don't really know why I think this, just because this character seems a little more fleshed out, and now there is a gameplay demo featuring him+ the devs said they wanted to make the start of the game easier to introduce newcomers. Just a hunch. Anyway, I think the game could be rad, I am hoping it will be. Good commentary as always from ENB he is a champion

Nice speculation. It certainly opened up possibilities I hadn't considered.

Re: ENB's Dark Souls 2 Commentary
@tof: mate I'm giving you a +1 there. I agree with everything you have said and was so about to voice my opinion on playing as a set character to start off with but you beat me to it
I think ENB did a great job in the short amount of time he dedicated to the preview and let wait for his 2 hour frame by frame analysis
Just want to say on rolling speeds and carrying different weapons:
Surely carrying a massive 2-handed Zwei is going to be more difficult to roll with then carrying a shortsword/longsword combo? Think about the tuck and roll action and try not to cut your own head off with a Zwei and I think one can imagine the difficulty right there and the care to roll a little slower..

Re: ENB's Dark Souls 2 Commentary
What people aren't considering is that the system may only count the weight of what is in hand. So it isn't that the two handed sword made him roll differently, but while it was in his main hand the total weight might have made him roll slower. Thus the total weight would be what you have currently out and switching weapons would change your total weight.
This is a possibility no one seems to be mentioning.

Re: ENB's Dark Souls 2 Commentary
Tolvo you raise a very good point. I shall conceed to agree with you there. This would be far more realistic.
I am hoping that the carrying capacity like in Demon Souls is in existance. Carry a BB full of items is just silly.

Re: ENB's Dark Souls 2 Commentary
I'm unsure of how I will feel about that, often the system in Demon's Souls could be very tedious especially if you tried to pick something up without knowing what it was to find out it was a heavy object. Suddenly you had to remove things from your inventory or lose out on said item forever.
I understand the limitations in regards to weapon swapping, since it allows the player to carry an infinite amount of weapons for any situation.
It's really a tough call and reminds me of the debate between games which let you carry many guns or only limit you to two. Maybe some sort of Balance is needed, like I've always been find with the idea of a drop box or something, when you pick an item up you can send it to your stockpile/bottomlessbox/whatever so you don't miss out on important items which you just can't carry due to weight.

Re: ENB's Dark Souls 2 Commentary
I get that... but Demons Souls was a mechanic whereby you had to return to a central place to access your BB and in DkS its at every bonfire and, dont the items you leave on the ground remain there until you die regardless of how many times you rest at the bonfire? I'm pretty sure thats the case. So then one run back to the bonfire, drop items, go fetch new amazing item and return to bonfire to tool up etc...

Re: ENB's Dark Souls 2 Commentary
If you die and come back they were gone, or at least they were gone for me. Same for if you went back to the archstone and left then came back, they were gone for me. I lost out on Brushwood armor and various things due to that since I was wandering around and not using the Wiki, so I lost out on various things and had to make a new character to get them.

Re: ENB's Dark Souls 2 Commentary
I played DkS first, then picked up a PS3 for DeS, and the fetch/carry format for DeS was one of the things i disliked about it, it just felt like a grind and I ended up having to abandon a load of stuff that I wouldve preferred to hold on to and experiment with, so i'd personally stick with a BB.
You can only use one piece of armour at once anyway so why not just have it lying around in your inventory. I understand why it might seem silly having tonnes of equipment on you that you can swap around, but then, in reality you'd only be able to carry one set of armour and one or two weapons which would really kill a lot of the enjoyment of having a character customisation. .
. . so BB all the way says I.

Re: ENB's Dark Souls 2 Commentary
@Hali
haha you are right about the rolling speeds, but i am not into having everything necessarily true to life. but yes, it is a little crazy rolling around with a zwei! i do like the idea of only the equipment you are using at the time dictating your overall speed, as opposed to your backup/2nd weapon being included.... i dunno, as long as it is balanced, it will be rad.
with regards to the starting character, yeah, at first i was worried about there being no character creation, but more and more i think evidence is pointing towards a sort of prologue to the game featuring a strong main hero

Re: ENB's Dark Souls 2 Commentary
Okay at 12:54, am I the only one that thinks that armor on the enemy the player is fighting looks very similar to the Paladin set that Leeroy wears? It's hard to see in ENB's video but in the gameplay it is much more clearer. Besides the different color and chest emblem it looks very similar with the helm and shoulders looks.

Re: ENB's Dark Souls 2 Commentary
Hmm better. I still say the helmet looks very similar to the paladin set but now seeing the rest of the chest piece I'm not sure. Oh well thanks for the better image.

Re: ENB's Dark Souls 2 Commentary
Yeah, but even if it's just the helment I'm wondering if the Church of Thorolund or the Way of White will have a role to play. Could be an interesting side story.

Re: ENB's Dark Souls 2 Commentary
Please people, use your brains. ENB is good and all, but can we stop treating him like he's god or something? Why was character customization even a debatable issue? I'm sorry I just hate when people blindly accept things just because X says so. *end rant*

Re: ENB's Dark Souls 2 Commentary
i don't think people automatically assume anything, and i don't think anyone thinks that ENB is a god, but honestly, his videos are some of the best, his speculation is interesting and generally based on his rather extensive knowledge of lore, which is a result of his own research. i personally feel like he is one of the biggest contributors to the souls community and has been since the games release. with regards to the armor looking like leeroys, i def think the helmet has similarities. it is one of my fave pieces of armor in the game.

Re: ENB's Dark Souls 2 Commentary
I realize that some people are really good and watch his videos with and attitude of curiosity, not taking everything for granted. The main problem is when get into a lore-war with someone, and the they defend themselves by saying "Yeah but ENB said-!" after that I stop listening. I just really urge people to use their own imagination sometimes. Dark Souls lore gets boring when we only get one perspective.
