Post by Mr. Tart Wed Jun 19, 2013 5:47 pm

This is a follow-up to my topic "Imagine if you..." regarding Dark Souls, which you should by the way check out for a good read.

Anyway, if you didn't read the previous thread in the link, it's quite simple, write down, however long or short you'd want it to be, about an area of your own. The location, what it's like, enemies, bosses, items and/or anything else you could imagine. Go crazy!

I'll start off right away. I hate spiders. Used to be arachnophobic, so I'd like to see a small valley, or a tight ravine full of spider webs, with giant spiders as well as small ones attacking you. There would be traps, spider eggs to be precise, that if hatched next to you, they'd eat you alive, instantly killing you. The boss would, of course be a huge spider. You'd have to constantly move through the area since the spiders are hunting you, meaning that you'd be missing out on a lot of the items found in there. Some of the items you would be able to find is armour sets and weapons, since of course, the spiders eat people. The spider webs would slow you down a lot too, and if you're not carefully, you'd get stuck. Depending on your equipment, it would take longer to break free. Carrying a torch would be important to, if you'd like to access some of the areas filled with more webs.

The spider boss would do poison damage as well as use webs to attack you. As a funny reference to LotR, I'd like for there to be a small corpse with a shiny, small sword and a phial that produces light. The phial would function the same way as it did in LotR and as the Skull Latern did in Dark Souls. The sword has the effect in that it shines when enemies are not in your line of sight, meaning that if someone is behind you, behind a corner, above or below you, it will shine, however it has low damage. If you take too long in the valley/ravine, some younger spiders will even come to the boss' aid.

    Imagine The Great Hollow.

Now imagine it as an area about the size of Sen'S Fortress (Going down, still.)

Now Imagine Mushroom Shamans that drastically increase the movement speed of everything within it's area.

the worst hell I can think of would be a labyrinth or maybe a hedge maze, especially one that changes as you go through it.

My vision would be a thinly veiled set of allusions to some of my most cherished memories. The setting would be an enormous arena, capable of seating over 70,000 spectators in its glory. One would enter from the side and would be greeted by alternating areas of tunnel, stairs and open areas with walls rising to the sides. Navigating the entire area would require experiences in the relatively open areas above mixed with forays into tight and cramped seats and bleachers. Enemies would be humanoid and often act disoriented and sporadically hostile. Predicting attacks would be an ordeal. You'd find a lone vendor who would sell a mixed bag of items. A unique helmet, emblazoned with a sigil depicting the strength of the auroch would be the only armor. An oblong consumable throwing weapon would be found here as well as a potion that slightly elevates strength but drains stamina and prevents you from complicated actions like casting and melee combos. The entire time you'd face an onslaught of wind, ice and snow. The tunnels providing little respite. After having bested the above you'd make your way down one last tunnel. Faced with a group of eleven knights in intricate formation, battle would begin following an unseen high pitched shriek. The only noise you'd hear over the wind to this point save the vendor. At the sight of skillful attacks from either side an unseen crowd of spectators would thunder their approval. When the player strikes true it would be a cacophony. When the boss collective lands a blow the noise would be deafening. Upon victory, the crowd would immediately cease, leaving the player alone with winter

That hedge maze idea is awesome. The amount of isolation and claustrophobia that would invoke is beautifully Souls.

I would like... more water. In DkS there's New Londo and Ash lake, but I'd like an area that uses it more interestingly than as something to fall into. Imagine this:

You're on a walkway in the upper levels of an ice-filled wintry temple. You see a lever up ahead and hope it will open a way out, to freedom or loot, but instead the temple starts to quickly fill up with water. Panicked, you backtrack, but the entrance is already submerged. Resigned to your fate, you kiss your collected souls goodbye. But, now you notice the falling water has broken up the ice in the lower levels of the temple, and there seems to be a slight current in one direction. When the rising water has almost reached you, you jump onto an ice floe and are soon swept out of a previously-inaccessible alcove... into the open sea. Before you can figure out if you'll ever see solid ground again, the water around you begins to darken as a monstrously large sea-creature rises beneath you.

Stuff like this could play off of players' fears of drowning or large sea creatures (I'm pretty terrified of the latter).

It's fun imagining Souls levels. Can't wait to see what areas are actually in the game.

Oh god, I was reminded of a memory I wish I had permanently forgotten...
The water temple in LoZ Ocarina of Time.

Anyways, that sounds awesome! Having a boss fight on limited terrain in an incredible location like that sounds great. Imagine the serpent smashing through the ice if you stand on it for too long.

What I'd like to see is a dead forest full of slightly burnt trees. With your torch, you would be able to burn down certain parts to open new paths. Or, fire weapons of any type could leave sort of a lingering effect of fire if it hits an object. Personally, I just think that it'd be awesome to have the environment play a bigger part in battle. Such as certain weapons being weaker or stronger during rain (if they ever implemented weather, which would be cool).

Post by GrinTwist Fri Jun 21, 2013 2:18 am

A large underground maze under the area that you start in, however with multiple paths to take and dead ends. Also, as you keep taking the right path deeper under the starting area the cave gets as dark as the Tomb and you'll have to deal with quite a few skeletons before you get to the end where you would face a boss which is like a mixture between the flamelurker and the skeledog.

The boss itself would probably be around the same size as Sif but will be very aggressive towards the player. Oh, and like the Flamelurker the boss would get more aggressive as it's health is lowered.

    Attacks
The charge attack of the gaping dragon, however it would be able to curve a bit while charging
    Grab attack
An attack where it stands on it's hind legs for a period of 7 seconds before attempting to pounce at the player
AoE attack about as large as the Four Kings when it hits half -health
    Claw attack
    Bite attack
An attack where it stands on it's hind legs, like the other attack, but starts to use pyromancy before performing an attack similar to Manus's dark orb attack (the one that has the orbs surround the area before they come in at you). However this attack would have less coming at you, maybe 6-8 regular sized fireballs.

    Defenses
    78% Resistance to fire
    16 % Resistance to Magic
    38 % Resistance to Lightning
It would maintain a relatively low poise, throughout the fight however it will slightly increase along with aggression throughout the fight
Poison, toxin, and bleed would be ineffective against it.
Strength weapons would also have a small advantage over other weapons aside from magic.

    Drops
The boss will drop one of three things, throughout each playthrough
-Marrow Ring: A ring that could boost health generation.
     -Blast Ring: Boosts pyromancy damage.
-Charred Ring: A ring that could boost stamina generation.
The boss itself would drop roughly 30,000 souls upon defeat (or whatever the new currency is) but it would not drop a boss soul.

    Boss Area
The area would start out with the player dropping down into the boss room and into a pool of water. However the area itself is made up of black sand, small pools of lava, and small pools of water with large rock archs being scattered along the sides of the boss room.
The lava itself will do half as much damage as the lava regularly found throughout the rest of the game however, so you won't be punished as much for getting knocked into one of the pools.
The room itself would be the same size as Sif's boss area, so you have some space to move around.
There would be only four major rock formations that you could use to actually keep the boss at bay but for as much time as Gwyn would be kept away from us.

    Regular Enemies
I would say that as you start throughout the start of the area you would mostly encounter skeletons that you could beat roughly at the SL 28-35 range assuming your skill in the game. However as you progress the enemies become more demon-like in appearance, something like a mixture of skeletons and the Taurus and the Stray demon but on a smaller scale.

    Non-Respawning Enemies
Whatever, enemy that is the replacement of the Dark Knight from the original will be located down here however there will only be one of these enemies.
The other non-respawning enemy will be an aggressive NPC player that will use fire upgraded weapons with an armor set with similarities to Lautrec's armor set and the Channeler set. The player could find the armor in the second dead-end to the right at the end of the maze. (The NPC would be located shortly after running into the demon-like skeletons)

    Area
The area itself would be fairly similar to the Tomb yet it would be much more cramped offering not as much space for fighting in the area.

    Shortcuts
The entrance to the area would be found after hitting an illusionary wall found under the exit to the beginning area of the game.
The exit however would be a bonfire that would appear after the defeat of the boss.

    Bonfires
There would be two separate bonfires found within the area, one half way down into the maze and of course the other after the defeat of the boss.

    Unique Equipment
As mentioned before there would be a new set of armor found close the boss door, however there would be a shield found close to the first bonfire that has high defensive damage towards lightning attacks.

Oh and one other thing, I want an illusionary wall at the end of the game that leads to a large statue of GiantDad.

Well i love exploring ruined city's kind of like the undead burg but more complex and with stronger enemies. I also love snow so my ideal area would be a hugly complex stone fortress covered in ice ...

but the footage first released first DS2 would imply something like this is already in game. Yipee.

Would be cool if they could implement a drifting fog, but that might be a bit much for the graphics engine to handle.  maybe in a nice swamp with quick sand traps, maybe some aligator type enemies that would be difficult to lock onto and hit with certain weapons.  some sort of vine or moss monsters that hang from the trees and lash out to damage or trap the character.

The great eerie swamp or whatever its called.

I liked DS1 where you got locked up in the archives and get free with ease thanks to that artarded snake man just leaning against your cell. I want another jailbreak in DS2. If they haven't already got one. maybe a fight with another inmate and they end up barging down the wall which gets you out of there.
