I used to love the broadsword in Demons Souls, swings, thrusts and bleed. They took the bleeding away in dark souls however.

I find when I go against someone with a straight sword at higher levels I often lose. I feel most people that use them are generally great players and they know these weapons very well. The BSS is a very hard weapon to punish with my usual roll bs and parries that the larger weapons are just asking for. The darksword is also pretty great, it gets good damage as well as it has a fast moveset. The R2 attacks I've never been a fan of but I'm sure with a bit of practice they can put some damage out. Vit builds can easily be build around the Straight Sword class because of low stat requirements and the damage output these weapons give when upgraded elemental. They also are great buffed because of the fast movesets, causing high dps.

the sunlight straight sword is probably one of the best as it has the highest base dmg of the regular straight swords (same as broad and dark, 82 at base) but it has the moveset of the regular long sword with the nice thrust r2 where as the dark sword has high requirements for not much noticeable differrence (maybe it stuns fater cause its heavyer?)

The Dark Sword break guards faster and stunlocks faster, from what I remember.

befowler wrote:The leo ring works if you hit an opponent mid swing, so you can even use it if they have already swung and just missed. That's my favorite time as many of the larger weapons have greater reach than even the BSS R2 and I don't want to risk exchanging simultaneous hits or poking them first and then eating a counter attack because I couldn't get through their poise. In other words, let's say someone swipes at you with a claymore horizontal R1 sweep. As soon as the attack goes past you (either dodging or blocking) hit your R2. You will stab them, get the leo bonus, and still have time to then roll aside or away before they can get their claymore back around - even if they R1 it again. This works well against most slow swing/recovery weapons; the only one I have trouble with is the 2hd zweihander because of the stupid knockdown effect and broken vertical swing hitbox that usually hits me even if I'm three feet to one side. If you're desperate it also works on the BSS jump attack, although this is slower is much harder to roll out of afterwards.

The ring itself boosts damage by 40% if you use it right, so it's like a slightly weaker red tearstone ring but that you can use at 100% health. It stacks with power within and weap buffs of course, but unlike all of these items there is no leo ring buff aura to give away what you are up to and the glorious BSS poking you are about to unleash upon your enemies. Use this power wisely, my son, and discover where your strength and your power are needed. Always hold in your heart the pride of your special heritage. They can be a great people, Kal-El, they wish to be. They only lack the light to show the way.

BSS = Balder side sword (a.k.a. balder swag sword). Drops off the knights in the Parish.

Ah, right. I might play around with the Leo Ring when I get home, and try it out. I might combine the Red Tearstone and this ring for even more epic damage if it works well enough.

BSS could also mean barbed straight sword. Another great weapon.

i want to hear from players with experience using the silver knight straight sword looks the best and the r2 moves seem very powerful but no thrust?.. the more i read about pvp the more i realise that stab or thrust weapons seem to have an edge

any weapon with a thrust attack can be deadly, specialy rapiers and spears. the reason is lag thos thing can hit form twenty feet away and its the reason most people use them and theyre hard to parry cause you have to get in close oy you wont get the parry since you cant parry the tip of the weapon, the most you can get is a partial parry, the laggier the other person is the more range their weapon has is what ive found out.

I thought it did have a thrust? Have you tried the rolling attack with 1h or 2h? I might be wrong, it's been a while since I last used it.

The one handed r2 is a thrust followed by a swing with additional input I believe.

Stabbing weapons only have an edge if the player using them is very well practiced. However this applies to any weapon really. the Painting Guardian Sword can have an edge in the right hands.

the SK sword has a wide range power sweep for its r2 and the usual r1 combo for straight swords, most straight swords i've seen do have a 2h roll attack thats a thrust (short, long and dark sword tested)
The Balder Side Sword is very good, and the Silver Knight Sword is acceptable, but most straight swords have C scaling, which is nothing special, and half decent damage. I.E. Not very good.
Note that while stat-specific weapons have S,A, or B scalings in one stat, straight swords have C scaling in both Strength and Dexterity. Full damage output is reached at around 40/40, so a high-level build would make the most use out of straight swords.

    That being said.
The Thorn Straight Sword is insanely WTF if you use it with the Leo Ring.
