Re: Favorite anime!
nice roan tatami galaxy is my 4th, i hate funimation for not at least trying to dub that so it gets seen by more people. It would be a very difficult dub.

Re: Favorite anime!
Mainly read manga mostly.. But I really like Monster, FMA and for exclusively anime Aoi Bungaku (not really a series as much as a collection of stories, but it's rather good)
There's a load really, but I forget a lot of them now

Re: Favorite anime!
I usually wait for the series to finish so I can just watch it in one go. Though I am watching Gundam Unicorn, Arcana seems intriguing (Tarot is drawn to me for some reason) waiting for the new code geass stuff (It's so narmy its hilarious) Though I've been turned off from most newer animes do to the industries move towards appeasing the more crazed fans (the ones that stalk and fawn after supposed virgin seiyu and are rabid if told otherwise)

Re: Favorite anime!
Jinrui wa Suitai Shimashita has started off really nice, so I can recommend that. Art style seems to serve a similar purpose to the one in Kaiba, and lends a real neat juxtaposition of maturity, and simplicity. However, I can understand that what is popular is not necessarily what's good. You just got to keep your eyes open to find a gem.
Other than that, have you heard of the Jojo's Bizarre Adventure anime, and new fighting game that is coming out in Fall? Never thought it was gonna happen, and all we'd have is those OVAs that came out a while ago.

I couldn't imagine it with all the homage characters to Western media, but I never thought we'd get it all animated. Who knows?

Re: Favorite anime!
Fingers crossed.
I hope the trend of moe dies down. It's bothersome because I can't really take a series seriously if it constantly goes to fan service or slice of life cliches.

Re: Favorite anime!
I can tolerate ligh to light-moderate amounts of fanservice, but I despise that 1 slice of life anime that everyone has made 4000000000000 times. Similarly, I'm generally not a fan of the bleach/naruto style action anime thats everywhere. Tough to be invested if I'm positive everything will end well before the fight starts.
I prefer happy endings, but I prefer the happiness of that endings to be in frequent doubt.

Re: Favorite anime!
Artistic visions come rarely enough that it cannot support financially an industry, but can provide creativity. While what does make money might be an inferior product to the lovingly crafted masterpiece, it serves an important function. Anime allows a whole host of concepts to flourish that Western media does not develop, and its existence helps complete the portrayal of the fantastically vast, and varied dreams that Human Condition produces. 'Moe' shows, as it has come to mean, provides sustenance to niche industry that can produce great shows when the idea arrives. Although, I hope something else will eventually take the 'moe-show' place in providing cash, I don't hope it leaves entirely; Fan Service, and Slice of Life can be just as valid form of entertainment as Sci-fi. It just has to be well done.

Re: Favorite anime!
Aye, as it is now new ideas are rarer and rarer. And while I don't like it, they do serve a purpose of keeping the industry running.
I am a lil saddened at the step in animation, with outsourcing to foreign animators or severely under-paying in-house animators. The behind the scenes politics and corner cutting means they have to choose the easier (read: Safer) ideas to work with, so they are inevitably gonna aim for a broader market. Moe is here to stay, but I do hope it goes back to just being a Niche than as it is, the norm.
Also, forum. I'm a guy. And a good ending is one that closes the story and finishes all the various plot threads thoroughly. Something the jump trinity probably won't have. Though atleast the mangaka to Naruto has the ending on mind and now it's just about getting there.

Re: Favorite anime!
Now, I technically hate anime. But, I hate anime in the same sense that I hate television. I think most of it is crap, but I'm a cynic so that's just how I view everything. There are however, those gems that I do love. Cowboy Bebop, Neon Genesis, to name a few. There are some as well that I grew up watching, so there are the nostalgia glasses. Tenchi...A show about a guy surrounded by alien girls who all love him. Yeah, I once enjoyed a harem show, but I was a kid. And agreed on the above, I'd love to see things get a bit more interesting. I love anything plot intensive, or simply shows/anime that actually seem to be really intelligent. But of course, the bane of my existence. Plot holes, if I see far too many that don't have at least some explanation I do get quite fumed. But as mentioned, yeah. It's a business. So art is extremely hard to come by.
