okay now you just seem petty and it seems some Lifehunters dont really care about points or winning or you grudge against all that does not match up to you shining existance and expectations of the world and all that is right and just.

She does? She should post it then!
Dialoguing your idea: It removes the "big" feel of the wars and will make a lot of smaller events which could be harder to organise people for.

This system seems like a good idea, it would however not allow "large-scale" wars. Seems like it is more in the style of many small battles, which however is closer to the way actual wars work.
It would also need a large amount of management to actually make it work, though im confident that a few dedicated members would be able to do that.
The change to scenarios would also somewhat remove the point-problem and through that lessen the drama which this forum really has more than enough of sometimes.

Well I can draft scenarios and with Doughs help we can come up with fair rules and such with incorporates all the User Covenants. The idea of this is to allow even the smaller covs to get in and take on the larger ones in small battles and events.
Even then we dont have to worry about winning or losing because all events can be redone on a small scale, less organising, and at a later date.
I suppose as long as people ran challenges by the organisers on a turn based level which can be updated in the main thread...it wouldnt be too hard other than to agree on SL, Area, and team sizes...then let the two covs organise themselves or ask the organisers to provide hosts.
With some more thought and a bit of trial it could become a good system.

A turn based system? So for instance every cov in the system gets 1 turn prr month or something like this?

Hmm well if we divide Lordran into enough area...or perhaps the right amount..... I would suggest that we have one covenant making a move per week...until a contest is reached.
At that point the focus would be on resolving the contest within a two-3 week period and moving on.
Though I think we would need an SL level that allows for all user covs to participate and strict rules. If one cov can't front up the required people for the scenario then the bout goes to the side who can.
This may benefit the larger covenants....but I would like for all covenants to grow or have incentive to grow.

niec idea viral i swear somedays your a genius!!! but are we preping for a war in oolacile right now? and what about random vaders? if they kill the host because we didnt see them does that count as a win for the attackers and what about lag? say someone is havinmg a bad connection day they either win unfairly or lose unfairly what then? i merely ask as some more ideas on how to make this work.

Actually, I think I can maybe help improve on Viral's idea. What if we took something similar to the RSS war that just occurred (a series of "duels") and varied it up? For example, have periods of open conflict (normal war), escort missions, duels, boss fights, etc.
Basically, some neutral arbiter makes a lore "flowchart" of how the war can go, showing every possibility for every event (each "winner"). That then shows how it connects with other events. So, say the DS beats a NK advancement into New Londo: this could lead to a retaliation. But if the NK win, then they have to achieve a challenge victory over the 4K.
Obviously much too forward in that example, but that's the general idea. Instead of a points system, you instead have it based around lore and a continuous flow, writing the lore as you go (no more waiting). If you divide it up (logically, again) so that each individual member can only participate in an event so often (depending on the event), then it creates a seamless flow where individual character actions represent and show the tide of battle, but don't overpower any other persons actions.
So, Amos couldn't fight for every event the DS take place in, but he could obviously still have a significant presence in the ones he is in.
Thoughts?

You basically described the system better than I did. Thats how it works.
Its more about simulating real conflict while having fun than scoring points or just pvp.

Ah, I was picturing yours like a big, forum based game of "Civilisation", almost.
"Well, I'm going to attack Izalith!"
"I'm going to retaliate by fortifying."
Like that. Well, Good to know we weren't too different in our ideas
And as an added bonus, since the lore is written while we go, it might actually get finished!

Depending on what happens with the DS and the new LH cov this will either be the final points war or I'll have to remake it.

I for one think this new war style that's been kicked around for the last page or two seems like a great idea Dough.

It is, but I still want to do one big final war which takes parts of the old wars (points and one big thing) with the new idea (area bonuses and conquering). Mainly because its what Ive got planned at this time so I wont have to rethink how to do it. I want one big final thing to celebrate the DLC and the end to the old wars.

If a system like this is put into effect then I would keep short records of each fight. Nothing too deep. But as a whole it would look like the chronicles of some epic war!

I would think that the simple knowledge of who wins what activity with what build would be enoiugh, although I can certainly see how details would be nice. Killing Blow, most damage done, how close the fight was, etc.

Perhaps the best way to plan through a war like we've been discussing would be to actually get the covenant leaders together on Skype or something and have them RP as generals. "Ok, if your assassination attempt failed/succeeded, what would you do next," and such. Branching and simultaneous events would lead to multifront assaults and various strike teams.
We could probably spread out a war like this to cover a month or more, rather than the current style of "mass invasion every month", which quite frankly isn't all THAT interesting. It would be a lot more to actually feel like a part of an army, not just a guy slaughtering innocents.

Even if we don't do it for this war, I was basically just sharing a thought I had about how to best go about planning one of these "War 2.0" events.

Please no hate mail for this, yes Im repeating (if anyone even listened the first few times ), but my personal belief is that the "wars" are the pvp related section of the Covenants and thus should be conducted in a tournament style battle, one side against another (or several factions against several others separately), I think it would be fun (as that is the point of this all) and still fair and competitive enough for those that have fun with the competition aspect of it.
Just my opinion, dont explode or anything please! The small covenant war/tournament we are doing could be a good "demo" or test subject for what I have in mind.
This is the link if your curious (not promoting it here as most reading this are already members of a covenant) https://soulswiki.forumotion.com/t12452-small-cov-s-unite-for-tournament-war
