    So I've been using this build, and at random times my opponent is infected by Calamity Ring
    :suspect:
    So... what's going on, anyone got any clue? It's happened three times now.

    First time I kicked my opponent, then slashed him with my Katana, and it did 840 damage. Suddenly I noticed he had a Calamity Ring effect now. Messaged him and he didn't even know what a Calamity Ring was.

    Second time I had just rollstabbed the host after he spammed Wog, as he was standing up I noticed the eye of salamon was above him. User reported not even owning the DLC.

    Third time my opponent was AFK at the bonfire. I started kicking him towards a cliff and after about a minute the eye appeared.

    I wondered before if wearing the ring during pvp could give you the ability to give the mark of calamity yourself if you hit the opponent in succession. Like a reverse karmic justice. Would be a fair trade off for taking double damage yourself.

    Time for testing.

    Wow, the calamity ring might actually be viable if it has this effect.

    Saw it activated on the PC but it was part of a hack.

    Maybe kicking with the calamity ring causes calamity on the enemy in PVP. It'd make it a very worthwhile tool to help take down turtles and the such. I'd be interested in seeing some testing, maybe event testing it myself sometime.

    I don't know what kind of insane monsters From would be to do this but.....

    Another variable to test. 2/3 of your victims seem to have no prior Calamity experience. The DLC is actually the form of the latest patch with the purchase just the unlock key, meaning everyone playing on the latest patch technically has all the data, so....

    What if From wanted to take this line from the ring description to some new heights:
    "Best left unknown, or at least well hidden"

    Perhaps those who have not purchased the DLC are prone to Calamity in a kind of viral advertising scheme. You give them a calamity....they say "what the hell was THAT??!!?!?" You explain it to them....they want the DLC more. Essentially by showing the eye, you bring the knowledge of the calamity to those previously unaware.

    Now.....I may be a complete buffoon crazy guy for suggesting this but if you test this theory and find that spreading calamity is hit or miss, this might be information that would be valuable from potential victims.

    This would actually give tanks quite the edge. Think about it: a tank could kick you, give you calamity and then use his higher defense and shield to turtle through calamity and take you down faster.

    Guess I'll be trying it out again. Maybe instead of kicking you just have to get up close to them and make enough physical contact?

    So we may have a ring of freaky power that seems to activate from some amount of physical contact, whose only drawback is to receive higher damage to the wearer. If it were not the double damage effect, I would never have sought any reason to use it. I mean why a ring that only harms you? Now....this has got to be tested fast.

    In addition to kick testing, I'd test unarmed or quasi-unarmed attacks like claws or dragonoid fists. Hehe, I hope this is true, it'll be fun in coop to basically take one for the team in order to curse an invader. And think of the shenanigans in the Forest..

    Haha this also could really add to the hatmail QQ's. Anyone who is already chipping or casting without being hit much themselves stand to profit further. This actually makes it tougher sledding as a tank.

    Does it effect DURING or AFTER the first hit? Because If I get a damage bonus for my assassin's backstabs I'll finally have a way to power up my assassin without having to rely on the red tearstone ring or power within.

    Only the one I threw out there before as a potential variable. I would. start off with broken weapons if I was partnered. Allows for hitting often. Kicking obviously too. Bare hand attacks.

    Wacky idea to test first:
    proximity, does the person just need to be close. if so, how long?
    rolling at or near?
    I would say taking damage but Rynn's last example was afk
