I did everything this way. I killed Yurt already when the murder in my Nexus began.
And the quests from Mephisto were a piece of cake. Done! Only the friends ring were missed.
Now I'm in ng++.

Friend ring requires pwct. Also, make sure you said, "YES" to dude at very top of nexus, (forget the name)

I have a question about this fight -- are you matched with other players in your sl range, or just anybody? My guy in the 30s was summoned by the monk, and I ended up fighting 2 players that were both using cursed weapon buffed DBSs. My lowly longsword was not a match, to put it mildly, and I don't see how their builds were possible in the 30-40 range.

i'very never been ridiculously higher. But had several where they were. Pretty sure it starts looking in your range and just goes up till it finds someone. Tough luck if the person is. 100 Lvls above you.

If you're sl 30 they can be sl 20 - 40 no higher or lower

formula for all multiplayer contacts is
sl +/- (10 + sl/10)
So 17 to 43 on sl 30 and i think cursed DBS 2handed works at sl 43
edit:
now i've done the math - i can 2hand a cursed DBS on SL20. Take Temple Knight, put 10 on Int an 6 on Strg - u got it. With 42 i would think of doing it 1handed (so 10 more in Strg.), or better all points in vit and end, not sure - but i works pretty good on sl42

Every Wrap I've ever gotten has been because the host died before they even got to the boss room. Never even had to fight the PvP match more than once or twice. Not that trading isn't an option, but it's not that hard to try and get it naturally. Just get summoned as the boss enough times and you'll get it for free because of some host who got offed by the Cthulu guards
PS: I'm giving you this advice because I can't help with the trade itself, but I still want to feel like I'm helping

update! For those unaware, as the old monk anyway I didn't test it otherwise...slipped my mind. But if your BAREHANDED and have the head wrap on the 'push' animation because a headbutt.

I didn't know that about the headbutt, is it effective at all?
I main an Adjudicator Build (Shrine Miracles + Max Health regen + Cursed Clever) so I can't recall any lost fights as the old monk, and I do recall many hosts perishing before meeting me. I love sparing against DBS with the Clever because they are twin builds. And ganker Old Monk Battles are ridiculous fun, I actually prefer the host have back-up as the extra health for my build is overkill. I don't see many people with the Clever though, most go for DBS but Clever >, IMO. They definitely need more boss fights like this, I think the Mirror Knight in DksII is going to have a similar mechanic.

I don't think that formula works with invasions. Tried to help bef last nite with de levelling. He had a 30, me 35. He tried invading me and kept getting fails. Co op was good, so no connection problems. Why can't he invade me?

The 30 should always be able to invade a 35. I read rumors, that you can only invade someone over your sl with that formular, but that would be a really small range and i proved that wrong already. I invaded someone below my sl, although it was only within the - sl/10 without the added 10.
Try to relogin to PSN and Demons Souls Server both if this happens again, often this helps.
@reaper: has he poisoned them before the headbutt pushlock? He's doing damage with a headbutt
never did damage, when i push someone in the next Abyss with headbutts
