Re: Shield Design Contest
I'm finally working on a shield, despite my funny ideas I'm going to work on a real shield.

Re: Shield Design Contest
Thank you, I tried to incorporate a few ideas with my lack of visual artistic talent. First of all crosses are extremely common in heraldry but in the world of Dark Souls they aren't. However cross guard swords are, so I decided to replace that concept with swords featuring cross guards, blade pointed up to show the similarity with the distinction that they aren't odd crosses.
I also went with a slight idea of flora, flora is very common in the heraldry of Dark Souls, and the main shield we've seen so far in Dark Souls 2 also has flora for heraldry. Likely stemming from the concept of the Arch Trees on which most settle. I also made sure to not mingle the idea of arms and nurture/nature which is hinted by the leaves.
The colors I used I felt helped represent the solemn ideas of the games with the contrasting bright orange between showing that glimmer of hope. I even attempted to slightly duplicate the color scheme of humanity at the very center of it showing the relation between humanity, war, and nature. While still showing that the War and Nature are separate completely humanity finds its roles in both.
Now if only it looked good.

Re: Shield Design Contest
It doesn't need to look like one of the best shields in the world, but above anything else, I like the amount of time put into the reasoning of each detail of the shield. That is something preferable to a good look, in my opinion.

Re: Shield Design Contest
Thank you, I may not be a visual one but I am an artist.
Now a pretty good concept beyond me would be a shield designed to look like a kingdom from above. So the edges look like walls, with buildings inside, then castle walls past that, four towers with a crown in the very center.

Re: Shield Design Contest
No problem.
That seems like a good idea. It also seems very difficult to pull off though.

Re: Shield Design Contest
I'm no artist, but I just got an idea that looks really neat in my head...
Time to spend a couple hours making an MS paint quality piece.
(I hope they 1) expand it to the US like they did last time and 2) look at the concept of the shield, rather than the artistic skill of the drawer.)
I just looked up the contest to see how important the boundaries are, and apparently the winner gets a life sized replica of their shield. How cool would that be?

Re: Shield Design Contest
Ever see that "King of the Hill" episode where Dale buys a full suit of armor, then proceeds to terrorize the town in it?
If I got the winning shield, that's what it would be like.

Lol, and then the other guy (can't recall name) builds his own armor from a trashcan and cooking ware and they battle in the street.

Re: Shield Design Contest
I remember now. Only, this time more clearly.
But, battles in the street aren't anything on my skills of selling propane and propane accessories.
Ah, back on topic, I do think it would be a good idea, yes.

Re: Shield Design Contest
I really hated the Blood Shield and Effigy Shield. Sanctus was pretty good, though. I remember there were some really great ones that got passed up, though, but I don't remember them too well nowadays...
In any case, I hope we get some good shields this time.

Re: Shield Design Contest
Too bad the design is fixed to that shape (whatever it is called). That design would look great on a large round shield. Maybe with the edges white, so it looks like an ominous moon.

Yeah, I agree. Would be cool if they offered a couple of different templates >.<
Thanks guys!
