That is devious befowler.
I was working on getting an item for someone last night and I decided to break up the monotony and grab a lost gear item for Farmer Tarkus 2.0. I was in the Basin after retrieving my oolacile catalyst and decided to homeward bone and warp to where I needed to be. The game went to the loading/item description screen and then no further. I shut down the PS3 and reloaded that character and I was in Darkroot, a little bit outside the building with Andre. I figured the game lost track of where I was and dropped me somewhere in Darkroot for kicks since I was geographically close but I checked and I was down one homeward bone. So either the use of the item is registered before you warp or this counted as a potential bonfire location. I used another bone and gave up trying to load this character again since it was in a grumpy mood. I loaded my primary hunter and figured killing a camper would make me feel better. I said "self, let's double the odds and host as well." Well I wasn't connecting to jack so I went back to the bonfire area to see if a location change would cycle me through but paused at the door. My geography was missing outside the door. I walked around after taking a pic or two and everything was there but invisible floor wise. I have a video I'll upload with the pics soon. It's weeeeeeirrrrd.
After all the craziness I cleaned my disc (which wasn't dirty but had to try something) and went back to what I was doing which was (through entirely legitimate means mind you) getting a weapon or two on a low level character. I also managed to aqcuire upgraded Elite Knight Armor, a Chaos Scythe +5, grass crest shield and a few other trinkets for myself. Again, using entirely legitimate means. Hint: I named the character "Glitcheroo." So while messing around with this new character I decided to anti grief the Burg a bit. So while I didn't forest hunt, I brought our mission elsewhere. My first invasion was a Darkwraith in Upper Burg. He came looking for a victim and found an Elite Knight of Death waiting. I bowed from a safe distance he bows then goes to town doing cartwheels (since the ring doesn't promote actual flipping). Well an AR of well over 500 made short work of Mr. Cartwheely. A few more Darkwraiths confirms that these guys are generally TERRIBLE at PvP (more than me even) and likely have never seen a Great Scythe before as the attack arc and distance were more deadly than usual. The only death on my hands was a Darkmoon who invaded near the Sunlight Altar with a Fury Sword. We actually killed each other at the same time so that worked for me. I have to admit that this was a fun experience.
