Is Dark Souls the perfect game?

I'm not talking about technical stuff. I mean in terms of sheer enjoyment. Have you ever played a game that you enjoyed more and kept going back to time and again. A game which made any other game seem dull? If you have, what was it and how do you think it compares with Dark Souls?

Yes. Starcraft Brood Wars. It came out and I bought it, and played around 11 to 12 years in total, before SC2 came out. To this day, I still play Starcraft once in a while. Both campaign and online. It is a great game, and its quality is not shunned by others.

Castlevania: Curse of Darkness I dunno, I just loved this game so much that I bought a new copy today after losing it.

Fire Emblem: Path of Radiance Me and my brother beat this game 15 times over the course of god knows how long, just to get one character. (Ashnard)

Dark souls has been out for a short game. I have not spent any game for more than 2 years worth of gameplay daily. Starcraft was the one exception. We shall see how it fairs to that wall.

Final Fantasy 7, the game that got me into gaming itself.

The only games I used to love as much was Gears of War 1 & 2. Whilst very different games to DKS, they shared a similar learning curve to get any 'good' (I'm talking about pvp here), and despite the issues with lag/host advantage etc, I just kept going back for more....

in terms of enjoyment i have to go with monster hunter, i have 1,200 hours on unite alone.

Is Dark Souls the perfect game?

For me it is.

There has never been a game I was so addicted to.

Dark Souls isnt perfect, but its damn close. Its truly a special game. A game can have a bazillion quests and a plot worthy of a movie, but a good game is one that can make you feel truly scared, hopeless and dejected... and also make you feel victorious, proud and triumphant like no other game.

if its not dark souls it's probably demons souls. in terms of atmosphere and how the games made me feel demons souls wins for the environment, but dark wins in influential experiences (awesome pvp victories etc) (played demons soul form the entire time, so... still up for debate really...)

Just being here suggests we're obviously biased, but the online play really does make the entertainment endless. I've put more total hours into other games like Fallout 3, but rarely have I looked forward to playing a game on a daily basis as much as DkS.

Another great aspect is that much of the game can be played in bite sized nuggets. If I only have 15 minutes, I can still sneak in a few summon/invasion runs, or make it to the next bonfire, or even just quit in place if I have to. It's a game that somehow manages to keep a fairly level playing field at least in terms of equipment between hard core players on for hours a day, and those of us who have to balance it with other things.

Demons Souls will always be number one for me, but Dark is a close second.

They aren't perfect games, but they are extremely good.

Really you got to weigh up if they are truly as incredible as games you see coming out with unanimous praise such as Ocarina of Time or GTA IV.

I'd put them up there personally, but my opinion is too biased to have any kind of value.

Well Ill say Dark souls is the only game i intend to ever platinum, kinda speaks volumes.

... Lots of ya have favorites being either shooters or RPG...

Only other game I got as addicted to this gen was MAG. Completely different genre, but I'd almost say MAG is to the FPS genre what Dark and Demon's Souls are to the action RPG.

mag was awesome at the start but then they had to ruin it with the updates.

I KNOW RIGHT! I used to mow down entire squads face-to-face by myself with my laser LMG! In all honesty, by the last patches, MAG was a much better game than it was originally. Except Zipper never BALANCED *** SVER.

I don't think MAG is anything like the FPS of Demon's, MAG is super duper arcade.

The only thing that could make Dark Souls better for me would be some sort of camp with other people, like the Nexus, but more involved, almost like the roleplaying depth of Skyrim with Dark Souls gameplay and elements. (Best of both world's, no?)

Is not perfect, but is the only game I have continued playing after getting the Platinum trophy. If Dark Souls had:


more side quests(not as much as Skyrims, please, just some very rewarding and challenging side quests/bosses)


better story (Im addicted to the Lore of Dark Souls but the ending was not jaw-dropping)

no BB glitch (noobs get owned and frustated)

no ragdoll corpses


Then it would be the perfect game. With those minor issues I gave Dark Souls

9.5/10 !!!!!!!

But I'm addicted as hell.

MAG wasnt supposed to be realistic, zipper never advertise it like that, it was just FUN, unlike COD(mw1 was awesome, the rest were all the same), BF3 is good though. and yes they nerfed the lmgs so bad and sver had the best weapons and map spawns. anyway, on topic now, monster hunter is awesome i think everyone should try it if they want a challenge.

p.s. demon's imo is better than dark but dark is more balanced.

Bc1, bc2. Havnt been able to get into bf3, dark souls has stolen me away.

It's pretty close... only game I've sank more time into is FF7. Played it a half dozen times when I was a kid and played it again about a year ago on my psp, still a great game.

Be warned, the AN-94 in Bf3 has been nerfed to hell. I use it for the memories.

Yes, Metal gear saga - most well made video game plot in my opinion, congratulations hideo kojima!

In therms of multiplayer - Warcraft 3. No, no. Not World of Warcraft MMORPG, but Warcraft 3, battlefield strategy game with a fantastic lore too.

Dark souls, lets say its amazing because no matter what happens, you want to play again. And the most interesting thing is that this game is so good than can be compared to games like Call Of Duty in therms of best game of the year and those stuff.
