Shield Design Contest

It is the unfortunate fate of these kinds of contests. The best you can do is advertise as well as you can and try to stay true to appropriate audiences.

I am glad at least that many of the top 30 designs a of a very high grade, so we know that SOMETHING of value will be chosen

Yeah I agree this is rigged, heck the first shield contest for Dark Souls was the same deal and I thought that was rigged too but guess they decided they wanted to do it again. Which is a shame since there are pretty brilliant designs that probably won't come close to the top 30 and won't even be considered. I had really hoped when I first heard about this that they were not going to use Facebook again but oh well. Best to luck to everyone. At least there are awesome designs in the top 30 as well just wish more people could get a chance rather then not even be considered since they aren't in the top 30.

On the European side, most shields on Top are from the same 2 or 3 guys and some of them are seriously horrible.. probably vote bots.

This is my design, The Shield of the Great Eater
It's based on a religion I created for my comic Peabody & D'Gorath and thought it would be really cool to see it in Dark Souls 2 since I loved the first game so much.

Yep, there's some Ukrainian guy who has like, 14 shields in the contest, the majority of them are in the round-shield category, and all of them are in the top 30.

Some people are just desperate to cheat, apparently.

Hopefully they'll catch on to little things like that and give him the boot.

Check the Top page of European shields and check the names of the creators. And it's not just having 3 shields on Top page, it's how they got 200-300 votes in 24 hours

Which shield designs we talking? I just took a look and, while still suspicious, there are designers with more than one shield in the top thirty but I didn't see anyone with more than three in the European template list.

I see that too, but I can't help but wonder if it is either bots or these people have a huge presence in Facebook. That could give them a huge advantage over others, sadly.

Those are the ones I was talking about. Bots I would believe but honestly I haven't been checking enough to see if anyone had an unreasonable jump in votes. I was more asking about if anyone had somehow submitted more than their alloted three.


On a sidenote, I'm going through voting one category at a time.

I just finished the American list (holy crap there's a lot of shields). There actually seems to have been SOME actual voting taking place because, while there were a few bottom voted shields that I think should have been way higher (maybe even top thirty) the majority of them I can see why they weren't voted up. Middle tier is a little murkier in my opinion with some crazy good designs (Rant and Wife for example) that I felt could use a push. I think we all know what the top looks like. Definitely some popular bad eggs still lingering.


My highlights for comedic purposes:
The Lord of the Rings shield (white tree on a black background....really?)
The Han Solo frozen in Carbonite Shield


I also was surprised (not sure why the idea came to me anyway) that NO ONE made a Great Shield that was a headstone. Done right (aka, not by me) that would be one heck of a shield idea. Dark Souls III Shield Design Contest here I come!

There are some pretty abysmal shields that have made it in the top 30 already but I can see what you mean about those guys whose shields are so close together.

Skare I'll vote for you and the headstone shield any day bro!

dude i though about making an olmec shield kinda like that but i went with honeycomb, you should start amking it now so that it's ready day one of the subs lol.

This stone shield is an artifact, of an ancient god even before Oolacile existed. I imagined, that as in our world, the elder beliefs had primal and elemental gods.

Yeah, if you follow the imgur link, you will see the process. I took the European family crests as a basis, and imagined a order of Velka followers, that took honor in the service of their mistress, intimidating enemies with a display of their function, a punishing crow with a crown covered in the lifeblood of sinners. A bit grim, i know, that is how I envisioned the spirits of vengeance in the first game.
